As part of the annual Dublin Festival of Russian Culture, the Civic is delighted to present two outstanding productions by one of Russia’s finest regional theatre companies. Both works will be presented in Russian with English surtitles.
It’s 1934, on the remote west coast isle of Inishmaan, word arrives that a Hollywood movie is being made on the neighboring island of Inishmore. “Cripple” Billy Claven, eager to escape the gossip, poverty and boredom of his island life vies for a part in the film, and to everyone’s surprise, the orphan and outcast gets his chance…. or so some believe!
From the acclaimed pen of Martin McDonagh, The Cripple Of Inishmaan examines an ordinary coming of age in extraordinary circumstances and has become one of his most admired works.
Theatre U Mosta have made McDonagh their own and this wonderfully uproarious production will be a delight for Irish and Russian audiences alike.
“Theatre U Mosta succeed superbly with this strange, funny and touching story as if the actors themselves had experienced the whole of Ireland’s history.”
A. Sokolyansky, Theatre Critic.
