Tenderfoot: The Book
The plays in this volume are all written by 15/16 year old playwrights. TENDERFOOT is a theatre apprentice programme that has run in The Civic Tallaght since 2007. Bridging the gap between education and the arts it provides a creative space for 40 transition year students each year to engage in the art of theatre. The students write, design, produce and perform their own work under the guidance of working theatre professionals. These plays give expression to a seldom heard voice and will be of interest to youth theatres, schools and anyone interested in theatre.
“These plays deserve to be shared far and wide. They should be read, performed and loved in classrooms and youth theatres everywhere, and by anyone interested in what happens when young people are encouraged and mentored as artists in their own right.” – Michelle Carew – Director of National Association of Youth Drama
“This wonderful collection of plays embodies the student-centred approach of the new Junior Cycle and is perfectly timed. Tenderfoot presents a refreshing opportunity to reinvigorate drama for Junior Cycle and beyond. The plays are honest, relevant, funny and poignant. Finally we have a chance to celebrate our fine young playwrights.” – Karol Sadleir – Deputy Director of Assessment Junior Cycle for Teachers
