HEATHER

A reclusive writer. A massive bestseller. A dark secret. What are you willing to forget?
What are you willing to forgive?

A reclusive children’s writer becomes wildly successful. Her books are treasured across the country. But when a troubling narrative starts to unfold, we find ourselves asking: what matters more, the storyteller or the story?

HEATHER is a short, sharp play about language, prejudice and the power of stories.
After two highly successful 3-week runs at Bewley’s Cafe Theatre and a sizzling outing at Belltable in Limerick, HEATHER is finally back on tour. Don’t miss this challenging mystery!

Thomas Eccleshare has won the Verity Bargate Awards, the Catherine Johnson Award and was the recipient of the inaugural JJ BAFTA Screening Bursary. He is currently developing HEATHER for TV.

‘Dramatic equivalent of the Rubik’s Cube… expertly  directed by Liam Halligan… the excellent Dermot  Magennis…. played with a hesitant fragility by Aenne  Barr… luscious soundscape by Denis Clohessy… this  intellectually ticklish play entertainingly explores our  readiness to believe whatever story suits us.’ Fiona Charleton, Sunday Times

‘ **** 4 stars … The drama spins upon a gripping  premise and the timely relevance only heightens the  suspense… the added role-play demanded by the  shifting structures brings an extra frisson Denis  Clohessy’s original composition adds tremendously  to its success… Heather offers a welcome reflection  on contemporary cultural events, as well as a clever  meditation on ethics and art.’ Sarah Keating, Sunday Business Post

‘… engagingly performed as a breathless Hollywood  denouement against a tremendously dynamic  composition by Denis Clohessy… The assured  production… allows for a more thorny interpretation  so that under the author’s spell we see what Heather  wants us to see. In the end, perhaps, we all choose  our own story.’ Peter Crawley, Irish Times

‘The play raises awkward questions about how far the  personality of an artist is a relevant part of his or her  creative work… Magennis and Barr metamorphose  easily through the very different manifestations of  their characters… a provocative hour of (lunchtime)  theatre.’ NoMoreWorkHorse.com
