PRESENTED AS PART OF RED LINE BOOK FESTIVAL, 2021
For the Atoll is a new poem and song cycle – with words written by Jane Robinson and set to music by Malachy Robinson. The project is concerned with the terrible war crimes perpetrated against Bikini Atoll and with their aftermath, compounded now by rising sea levels. Performed by the Far Flung Trio – featuring Katharine Hunka on Violin, Dermot Dunne on Accordion and Malachy Robinson on Double Bass – the words are spoken to music and sometimes sung.
Premiered live online earlier this year at the Killaloe Music Festival, this will be the first in-person performance of For the Atoll.
The Far Flung Trio’s eclectic and virtuosic performances have been rapturously received at festivals all over the country; Brendan Flynn (Clifden Arts Festival) called them “crazy and beautiful”. Their joyous album “Live at the Large Room” was released in 2020.
