Covid 19 has been on all of our minds since at least March 2020. It is thanks to the development of new vaccines that we are now gradually finding our way out of the Pandemic. Join Professor Luke O’Neill of TCD in conversation with Dr.Shubhangi Karmaker as they talk about the latest developments in vaccines and therapies in the fight against Covid 19.

Luke O’Neill is Professor of Biochemistry in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology, Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. He is a world expert on innate immunity and inflammation. He is listed by Thompson Reuters/Clarivates in the top 1% of immunologists in the world, based on citations per paper. Luke also has a passion for communicating science to the public. He has a weekly radio slot on the Pat Kenny show on Newstalk. His latest book, also published by Gill is called Never Mind the B#ll*cks Here’s the Science won the An Post/Irish popular non-fiction book of the year, 2020.

Dr. Shubhangi Karmakar is a young academic and physician, currently working in the Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics service in St. James’ Hospital Dublin. Shubhangi is noted by the European Journalism Centre as one of the most notable young voices on inclusive and accountable journalism, addressing their News Impact Summit earlier this year.

Their medical research is wide-ranging, with national and international presentations on ventilation in Adult and Paediatric Intensive Care settings, to rare neurological disorders, and medical education and leadership in Psychiatry. Their latest work looks at the development of pulmonary emboli across a variety of COVID vaccinations.
