Meet Contemporary Dancer, Robyn Byrne
My name is Robyn Byrne and I am a contemporary dancer and maker from Westmeath. I work freelance for contemporary dance and theatre companies in Ireland and also make my own work. Covid19 has seen everything come to a standstill. Like the majority of artists, all of my projects have either been cancelled or postponed. I was due to perform at several arts festivals starting this May, all of which have now sadly been cancelled.
It’s been a tough blow to artists, I’ve seen a lot of friends lose work and no one really knows when we’ll be up and running again. It was gearing up to be an exciting few months but now there’s massive amounts of uncertainty. I teach dance to children and adults and usually rely on that as my regular source of income. Unfortunately, that too has been cancelled so I don’t have that regular income to fall back on.
I’m delighted to be supported by this fund, it’s extremely reassuring to know that we can be acknowledged as artists, receive support and not be expected to produce content or prove ourselves in return. Opening an email today with some actual good news has lifted my heart. I think The Civic are running an amazing initiative and if anyone is in the position to donate then please do.
