Honey & Lemon are multidisciplinary entertainers who experiment with dance, voice & film to blur the boundaries of contemporary dance. Founded as an artistic partnership in 2020 by artists Millie Daniel-Dempsey & Amy Robyn Lyster, Honey & Lemon is built on a decade of friendship & began as a desire to centre themselves & other women artists on the contemporary dance stage.
Millie & Amy started working together while training professionally in the UK & have each been developing their own practice in Ireland, the UK & Europe as independent performers, dance makers & facilitators since graduating in 2015; these wide-ranging experiences as performers have a strong influence on their work. Honey & Lemon are previous recipients of the Dance Ireland Mentored Residency Award, which began their ongoing relationship with their mentor, Lea Anderson MBE. Their work has been presented at Five Lamps Arts Festival & Dancer from the Dance Festival, with their current work in development, DOUBLE ACT, due to premiere in 2023. They have previously been resident artists at Axis Arts Centre, where they facilitated the post-Covid re-launch of Threads, the venue’s flagship women’s dance group.
During their time in residence here in The Civic, they will provide a series of community engagement workshops, both here in The Civic and out in the Community:
Dance: On Screen
A series of workshops to engage local people with dance through cinema. Dance: On Screen was developed initially at Axis and a similar workshop model will take place at The Civic Theatre. These workshops are for women, for up to 20 participants. Participants have the opportunity to watch films, curated by Honey & Lemon, followed by a dance workshop which explores the themes and choreography of the film as well as giving an insight into Honey & Lemon’s creative practice. Each workshop includes a tea/coffee break and open discussion time. The initial Dance on Screen session is based on an open-call for interested parties who may then wish to book a session for their group in the Autumn.
Open Session Tues 13th June 12 – 3pm

Collaboration with women4women
Honey & Lemon are partnering with women4women to support members of the Dublin refugee community to integrate into their local community, provide opportunities for creative expression and to expand the organisation’s reach beyond the DLR area. One phase of Cut Loose will be facilitated with this intention.
