The ever popular Beezneez Theatre Company comes to Civic Theatre on Fri 8th and Sat 9th February with Scorpion, a highly anticipated new play by John McDwyer.
There is no denying John McDwyer knows how to write a good play. No matter what the topic you can be sure of that trademark McDwyer humour – Lovely Leitrim, Callaghan’s Place, Unforgiven, United, You’ll Never Walk Alone, Love Is have all been huge successes for McDwyer and Scorpion this searing, honest appraisal of life at the end of the Celtic Tiger is set to be just as popular.
Three sales managers meet in their Sales Director’s office, presumably to meet their new managing director but, in fact, to meet their future. For some, that is more promising than for others. As they await their call, they ‘bat the breeze’ and in scenes rich in uncompromising dialogue they fight for position and score points on one another without fear or favour.
McDwyer pulls no punches with his dialogue in this important new work and while full of witty comment and sparkling one-liners, Scorpion ultimately delivers a bang up to date commentary of the state of Ireland in the current climate and presents the audience with identifiable characters who will remain in the memory long after the theatre has emptied.
Scorpion comes to Civic Theatre on Fri 8th & Sat 9th Feb at 8pm. Tickets €20/€16 are available from 01 4627477 or online on www.civictheatre.ie
