Development of local talent at the heart of twelve month programme

We are delighted to welcome Director/Theatre Maker Davey Kelleher as Artist in Residence at the Civic for the next twelve months, commencing July 2017.  During the course of the year Davey will be working alongside Artistic Director Michael Barker-Caven to develop the Civic’s studio theatre as a developmental space for emerging artists and companies, particularly those based in the South Dublin region.

“There is an exciting new wave of theatre talent emerging in Tallaght and the surrounding areas and the Civic intends to play a pivotal role in supporting the growth of these young artists by providing free mentoring and on-going training processes” comments Artistic Director Barker-Caven.

“We plan to nurture writers, actors, directors and other theatre makers, empowering them to bring a distinctive, exciting and resonant brand of theatre practise to the Civic. Davey is a highly skilled and creative artist with a real eye for new talent and a hunger to see that talent flourish, and I’m thrilled that he’s coming on board at such a time of rich potential. He will be working with me to identify companies and projects of high artistic and audience merit that we will then mentor and develop at the Civic right through to potential production on the stage. We want the Civic to be synonymous with bold, vibrant, daring new local work that our audience will relish seeing. I urge local artists to keep an eye out for an imminent open call invitation where we will be looking for submissions of interest to take part in the first stage of this exciting residency process.”

Davey Kelleher comments:
“I’m delighted to have this opportunity to work with the Civic. It’s thrilling to have the chance to be resident at such an established theatre with such a terrific team. I can’t wait to get started.”

During his residency Davey will also work on his own projects in collaboration with the Civic team, as well as devising an exciting Active Audience engagement programme.

The Civic would like to thank the Arts Council of Ireland (An Chomhairle Ealaíon) for its generous support and funding of this appointment.
