The Weight of Shadow is a powerful visual exploration of the rapid decline of mental health, symbolically based on true events. Inspired by Sasha’s fiancée, the performance employs an evocative blend of physical storytelling—dance, mime, and aerial acrobatics—to express the emotional and psychological turmoil of a psychiatric patient. The production intricately captures a single day in the life of an individual struggling to maintain their tenuous grip on reality. Through vivid, expressive movement, The Weight of Shadow delves into the complexities of mental illness, shedding light on the isolation, confusion, vulnerability, and profound anguish experienced by those navigating their own fractured minds.
Sasha has performed on stages around the world, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, TEDx – Limassol, Russia’s Platonov Arts Festival, and the Festival d’Avignon in France, among others. In addition to his performance work, he leads workshops that integrate physical expression—acrobatics, dance, and vocal work—into theatrical contexts. He has taught at The Place in London, the University of Limerick’s dance students, the Irish Aerial Dance Festival in Donegal, and physical theatre programs in Latvia as part of Re:Riga and Festival d’Avignon. He has also conducted independent workshops in Berlin, Glasgow, Marrakesh, and beyond.
With a background in music, Sasha also composes original scores for his productions, such as The Weight of Shadow, as well as for just recreational reasons.
