Verdant Productions and The Civic Theatre, in association with Dublin Fringe Festival are delighted to present the World Premiere of ‘The Man Who Talks to Statues’ written by and starring Shane Casey, this September.

Cork native, Shane Casey is best known for his role as Billy Murphy in the BBC TV series ‘The Young Offenders’. Shane has also appeared in numerous television shows and films including the Palm d’Or winning ‘The Wind that Shakes the Barley’ alongside Cillian Murphy and directed by Ken Loach, ‘I Never Cry’ a Polish/Irish production released at the 2020 San Sebastian Film Festival and winner at the Dublin International Film Festival 2021, Channel 5’s ‘Intruder’ and, most recently, ‘The Beautiful Game’ currently streaming on Netflix.

Casey also picked up best actor awards for his role as Doc in the Mark Cogan ‘Home’ trilogy. His theatre credits include the acclaimed original production of ‘Love, Peace and Robbery’, for which Casey won best actor at the Underground Film Awards, and Frank O’Connor’s ‘God Bless the Child’. His work as a writer has produced the show ‘Wet Paint’, among other productions, which achieved great success in Cork Opera House in 2019, followed by a national tour. ‘Wet Paint’ looks at male relationships on a building site and is based on Casey’s deep understanding and time working as a painter and decorator.  Shane can be seen in Season 4 of ‘The Young Offenders’ which premiered on BBC1 in May 2024.

His radio play, ‘The Man Who Talks to Statues’, went to air on Newstalk Radio in 2023 and is currently available on the Drama on Newstalk Spotify channel. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN
