Travelling to the Civic all the way from Banteer, Co. Cork are The Glen Theatre Group to present Sive by John. B Keane. This is their third visit to The Civic. We had a chat with Eileen, theatre member, in advance of the show!
Can you tell us about The Glen Theatre Group?
The Glen Theatre Drama Group is almost thirty years in existence started by three local brothers Tadhg, Seamus and Con O Keeffe all of whom are pinnacle to both the drama group and the theatre which is a beautiful old school converted to include a full bar and two meeting rooms. Situated at the foot of Mount Hillary in the beautiful scenic area of North County Cork. Everyone works on a voluntary basis and our drama group boasts of forty eight members, we are all like one big happy family. Drama is core in the existence of the theatre, we host two plays each year one before Christmas and a second in the spring time.
Can you Tell us About the Dramas you like to stage?
We enjoy staging well known writers such the infamous John B Keane, Sam Cree, Ray Cooney and Derick Benfield. Playing host to many Irish, European and American musicians, singers and comedians our theatre accommodates an audience of 150 to 160 people. John B Keane plays are always a big hit with Banteer audiences and in the past we have done The Field, The Chastitute (also performed at the Civic).
Why Sive?
We select plays to suit the cast members available for the forthcoming season Sive was decided on that basis. The cast are all amateur and work in full-time jobs around the County, and in fact the guy that plays Liamie is due to get married on the June Bank Holiday. His Fiancé is also a member.
What can Tallaght Audiences expect from the Show ?
We promise our audience a truly excellent performance.
