For one week each autumn, Mick Dowd is hired to disinter the bones in certain sections of his local cemetery, making way for new arrivals. As the time approaches for him to dig up those of own late wife, strange rumours regarding his involvement in her sudden death seven years earlier begin to resurface….
Winner of the Evening Standard & George Devine Awards for Most Promising Playwright 1996. Martin McDonaghs brilliant black comedy, A Skull In Connemara is one of McDonaghs funniest plays. Nominated for an Olivier award in 1997 the play is guaranteed to make you laugh, squirm and avoid graveyards!
THE CAST
Mick Dowd: John Olohan (2011 Irish Times Theatre Award winner)
John trained at The Abbey School of Acting in 1970 and has gone on to become one of Ireland’s most respected actors. John was a member of the Abbey Theatre Acting Company for 1980 – 1990, during which time he performed in many productions such as Da (Hugh Leonard), Hamlet, Tarry Flynn, Sive, Executions (Ulick O’Connor), At Swim Two Birds, Silver Dollar Boys, The Hostage and Antigone. He also worked with I.T.C. for 4 years from 1976 – 1980. Some of his other theatre work includes: Rough for Theatre I & II (Beckett Festival) Dancing at Lughnasa (Abbey/Gaiety/the National Theatre.), Sive (Abbey/Gaiety/Cork), Sharon’s Grave (Gate Theatre), The House (The Abbey), The Chastitute (National tour), Macbeth (Second Age Theatre Co.), Romeo & Juliet (Second Age Theatre Co.), The Playboy of the Western World (Abbey Theatre), Drama at Inish (Abbey Theatre), Hysteria at the Project Arts Centre and The Lieutenant of Inishmore with the Townhall Theatre in Galway (tour), The Playboy of the Western World (Druid Theatre), Silver Tassie (Druid Theatre). John won an Irish Times Irish Theatre Award in 2012 for his performance as Byrne in Druid Theatre Company’s critically and popularly acclaimed production of Big Maggie.
John would be a familiar face to many people from having played the role of Finbar in Glenroe (RTÉ) and also from his work on Fair City from 1994 – 2001. He also appeared in Ballykissangel, The Ambassador and Amongst Women for the BBC and Father Ted for Channel 4. Most recently he has worked on The Tudors for Showtime. In 2012 John toured with Druid Theatre’s production of Famine as part of the DruidMurphy cycle. Most recently he returned to the role of Clatty in Livin Dred theatre’s revival of Ride On.
MaryjohnnyRafferty: Bríd Ni Neachtain
Brid is a native of Galway and was member of the Abbey Theatre Company until 1999. Bríd played Rose in the world premiere of Dancing At Lughnasa (Abbey
Theatre, Royal National Theatre, West End and Broadway). She appeared in Portia Coughlan at the Peacock Theatre and in the role of Auntie Ah in Woman and Scarecrow at the Peacock Theatre, Dublin. She appeared as Juno in Juno and the Paycock directed by Andrew Flynn. Brid appeared as Bridget in the Frank McGuinness play There Came a Gypsy Riding for Livin’ Dred Theatre Company and appeared in Here We Go Again Still for Decadent Theatre Company, Galway. Brid appeared in Little Women in the Gate Theatre. Brid appeared as the role of Sister Aloysius in Doubt and recently as the Widow Quinn in ‘The Playboy of the Western World’ in the Lyric Theatre. Thomas Hanlon: Patrick Ryan
Patrick Ryan studied acting in the School of Drama, Trinity College Dublin. Since then he has appeared in a number of theatre productions such as Wuthering Heights, The Possibilities and Dracula. He also toured for a number of years with the incredibly popular Alone It Stands from Lane Productions. He moved on to work on various television productions including “The Whistleblower”, Northanger Abbey and Pure Mule.
In 2009, Patrick appeared in Belltable’s The Revenger’s Tragedy in Limerick. He also worked on the feature film, Sensation that was released in 2010. In 2011 he played the role of Tony in Trivia, which was a new series for RTE’s winter schedule. 2012 saw Patrick reprise his role as Motor in Livin Dred Theatre’s revival of Ride On.
Mairtin Hanlon: Jarlath Tivnan
Jarlath Tivnan started acting in 2008 with NUI Galway’s drama society. Over the fours years he had lead roles in over twelve productions including ‘The Lonesome West’, ‘Delirium’, ‘Danti Dan’, ‘The Last Days of Judas Iscariot’ and ‘Philadelphia, Here I Come!’. He was nominated for best actor at the ISDA ceremony in 2008 for ‘Danti Dan’. Jarlath is also a member of Galway’s ‘Fregoli Theatre Company’. Credits with Fregoli include ‘Breathing Water’, ‘Blocked’, ‘The Sweet Shop’ and ‘Home’. At the Galway Arts Festival 2012 he played the role of ‘Piglet’ in Galway Community Drama’s production of ‘Frank Pig Says Hello’ directed by Andrew Flynn. This is his first production with Decadent Theatre Company.
