On Friday 19th September The Civic staged “A Keane Sense” as part of Culture Night.
The evening featured extracts from the works of John B. Keane. On arrival patrons were greeted with music from Martin Nolan (tin whistle, uillean pipes) and Liam Kennedy (bodhrán/ mandolin/ fiddle). Michael Scott who co-ordinated the evening’s schedule introduced each piece. Jon Kenny, Mary McEvoy, David Gilna and Siobhan Callaghan read extracts from ‘The Field’, ‘The Matchmaker’ and ‘Sive’.
Ballads by Keane such as “Many Young Men of Twenty” were interwoven throughout the evening.
