Wendy Woolie and the Secret Socks

Miss Wendy Woolie loves to knit for everyone but especially for children. She sells all her colourful creations in her little village shop called ‘Wendy’s Woolie Wonders”. From the outside it looks like any other ordinary children’s clothes shop full of colourful knits and cosy winter scarves in the window. But one day when a five year old boy called Ben Ingles and his mother Millie step inside Wendy’s Wooly Wonders to buy Ben a new hat for school, they quickly realise this little village shop is not ordinary at all. In fact, everything about it is quite extraordinary especially Miss Wendy Woolie.

Wendy Woolie and the Secret Socks, is a work in progress, created for The Civic’s Ready, Steady, Show! Mini-Fest on 12th September 2017.

Based in Rua Red, Margaret Callan-Bergin is a writer, director, actor and artistic director of South Dublin’s only professional Theatre Company Garbo Productions. Over the last 30 years, she has worked in many different contexts including actor/teacher for Grafitti Theatre Company. Margaret was commissioned by RTE to write and perform her stories for pre-school children’s shows ‘Morbegs’ and ‘Storylane’. She was also commissioned to write and direct for Tallaght Youth Theatre. She founded Garbo Productions in Clondalkin 1999 with the unbending commitment to create excellence in children’s theatre for the children of South Dublin. Despite minimum resources in the last fifteen years, Garbo provides an annual school tour of Margaret’s original plays much to the delight of the children of South Dublin. Many of these tours were supported by environmental services SDCC. Margaret is currently writing ‘Stuck’ a play for adults and young adults supported by SDCC Arts Office. Margaret is really excited to be part of the ‘Early Years’ collaboration with The Civic.
