The Civic are accepting new applications for TenderWRITE, its two-year development programme for young adults, aged 16 to 24, who are interested in writing for or making theatre. Applications are welcome from Tenderfoot graduates and young people with a creative writing practice. TenderWRITE is facilitated by Veronica Coburn, Tenderfoot’s Programme Director, and Gavin Kostick, Fishamble’s Literary Manager.
There are currently 10 young playwrights taking part in TenderWRITE.

Look out for a programme of original work this Autumn/Winter in a series of public rehearsed readings celebrating these young playwrights’ completed work. There are between 4 – 6 new TenderWRITE places available in this application round. New participants will join the existing TenderWRITE group and begin the process of writing a full-length play or piece of theatre over the course of the programme through a first, second & final drafting process. The programme is designed to run over 24 months culminating in public rehearsed readings.
New participants will work towards a public sharing of their work Autumn/Winter 2025. Participants will write in their own time. There are between 6 – 8 TenderWRITE workshops, First Tuesdays, each year, scheduled on the first Tuesday of designated months. Two additional Saturday sessions will be scheduled each year to facilitate Q & A sessions or workshops with guest playwrights and/or theatre trips.

There is no cost to participation in TenderWRITE. The only cost involved is the purchase of theatre tickets for scheduled theatre trips. Participants are expected to attend all sessions. Participants are expected to work in their own time between sessions so that they make progress throughout the programme. In return, TenderWRITE will work to inspire and guide you and provide you with practical feedback and advice. TenderWRITE is dedicated to nurturing new artistic voices.
To apply, fill out the online application form HERE. You will also be asked to complete a writing exercise and submit a piece of your own creative writing. You can submit a play extract if you are already writing for the stage or a sketch, or if writing for theatre is new to you, you can submit a piece of prose or spoken word or a poem.
