Join our emerging ensemble in residence Freshly Ground Theatre as they rehearse and showcase a new piece of theatre completely online!

In the next few weeks, we’ll be checking in with Freshly Ground Theatre as they develop and create ‘Play Apart’ as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2020. Here’s what they had to say about this latest project!

‘We are so excited to start working on ‘Play Apart’, which involves young people between the ages of 4 and 18 writing and submitting short scripts to our company through an online form. These scripts will be published in an online collection as well as a selection being showcased on social media and online platforms for Cruinniú na nÓg on the 13th of June!

These performances will involve our ensemble of actors interpreting the scripts over video calling platform Zoom

Script submissions are open NOW and will close on May 1st at 7pm, so if you have any creative young people in your life, make sure they get involved in this opportunity to be a part of this innovative new theatre project, we would absolutely love to hear from them! We’ve given a series of prompts for each age group, and young writers can follow these prompts or they can let their imaginations run wild and come up with an exciting new idea! We’re so excited to figure out a rehearsal and production process that happens completely online, and we think it’ll be a really creative exercise for us. We think there’s massive potential in online platforms, and we have no doubt that the creativity we receive from young people will be really inspiring in this difficult time. We hope that we can give young people who might feel disconnected from the world an opportunity to feel a little bit more connected by letting them express themselves in short scripts, and seeing those scripts come to life!

We want to thank South Dublin County Council and Creative Ireland for supporting this project as part of Cruinniu na nÓg 2020, and of course we’d also like to thank the Civic for being such big supporters of what we do. Big love, and wish us luck.’ !!!
