The Civic in Tallaght is delighted to announce the publication of a unique volume of plays: TENDERFOOT: A Volume Of Plays By & For Young People, selected from over 100 plays and monologues, written by 15 and 16 year old students over a period of 7 years. The 13 plays and 3 monologues in this volume reflect the lives of the young writers, are full of their experiences and reveal their views of the world.
Since 2007 transition year students from schools in South Dublin County have been taking their first steps into theatre through TENDERFOOT, a successful apprentice theatre programme lead by one of Ireland’s most esteemed theatremakers, Veronica Coburn and The Civic, Tallaght. It offers transition year students interested in theatre an opportunity to learn about all aspects of the art of theatre in a very hands-on way. Transition year is all about experience – new experiences and new ways of learning. Apprenticeship is all about learning by doing.
A TENDERFOOT is an apprentice, a trainee, a learner, a novice, a raw recruit, a pupil, student, a beginner. TENDERFOOT is a visionary arts programme at The Civic in Tallaght since 2007. The ethos of the programme is accessibility, inclusivity and artistic excellence. Now in its eighth year, TENDERFOOT students learn by making theatre under the guidance of working theatre professionals. The students write, design, produce and perform their own plays. These plays give expression to a seldom heard theatrical voice and provide a profound connection with peer audiences. This volume will be of interest to youth theatres, schools and anyone interested in theatre.
The students first tentative steps into the world of theatre are archived in this beautiful new book.
TENDERFOOT: A Volume Of Plays By & For Young People will be launched at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 15th in The Civic in Tallaght.
It will be available for purchase at The Civic and will be on general distribution from January 16th 2015.
