The Restoration Comedy ‘The Luckey Chance’, or ‘An Alderman’s Bargain’ was written by Aphra Behn. It is a 17th-century comedy in five acts. First staged in the Spring of 1686, its main theme is romance and it includes the clever devices from the pen of Behn such as sharp wit, social satire, and an engaging plot with impersonations and disguise. As always, the play reflects the complexities of upper-class life in England, using humour to critique societal norms.
