Exhibition.
Launch: February 20th, 12.45 pm
The exhibition runs from February 20 to March 7, 2026
To celebrate the community within Mother Tongues’ Language Explorers programme (a creative initiative that supports families in exploring their home languages through the arts), we invited our participants to become the featured artists of a very special exhibition at The Civic Theatre.
Over a series of workshops held at Rua Red, families collaborated to create unique self-portraits. These works reflect their identities, the languages they speak at home and the stories that make each family unique.
Using collage and mixed media, children and parents worked side-by-side, sharing a space of creativity, care and imagination. The result is a collection of portraits shaped by the many different languages spoken around the table during the creative process.
What you see in this exhibition is the result of time spent making, listening and connecting. These works hold moments of joy, pride and togetherness, offering a glimpse into the everyday multilingual life of Ireland today.
Visit the exhibition
We warmly invite you to spend time with these families and their stories. When visiting the exhibition at The Civic, look for the QR codes placed alongside the artwork. By scanning them with your phone, you can listen to the families’ voices in their own languages, adding a rich, personal dimension to their portraits.
