Stepping Stones Way

On 4th November we welcomed 65 children from 6th Class and 1st Year from 3 schools to  workshops facilitated by Freshly Ground Theatre Company Artists kicking off Stepping Stones Way again this year in the Main Space!
The participating groups were tasked with exploring scene analysis, characterisation and directing performers. Students used their creativity in working with an open script and professional actors to bring a script to life on stage.
Students had great fun and loved the experience in the theatre.
6th Class children’s response to the workshop: “That was magnificent, “breathtaking” and “spectacular!”

Stepping Stones Way, is part of The Civic Education programme and kindly supported by the Arts Council. It’s a unique programme that builds community while participants can voice, share and learn from each other, led by Freshly Ground Theatre Company Artist/Facilitators.
The participating schools in this programme are: St Aidan’s Senior National School, St Aidan’s Community School, Scoil Maelruain Primary School & Old Bawn Community School.
Stepping Stones will continue now with weekly workshops with 4 groups from each school until March 2026 and we’re looking forward to hearing all about its journey!
Teacher’s observations
“The young people absolutely loved it and particularly the workshop in the theatre. They were so engaged and some of the young people cannot usually hold focus and concentration for that period of time. They have been all talk about it since and some are planning on asking if they can perform at the next session.  This opportunity is so important for their growth in so many ways. A Lot of the young people attending have  a story to tell and of their resilience so far in life. Thank you for being so patient, kind and enthusiastic with them and  giving them a fabulous introduction to the arts. We look forward to the next session.”
