The Civic believes in creating opportunities, meeting the needs and giving more access for all to engage with, experience and actively participate in our Arts programmes. Focused on being child-centred, encouraging student-led interactions with participants and audience responses to our many scheduled events, workshops, presentations, live performances, shows and tours. We’re delighted to be working, partnering and co-producing with a strong network of talented professional Artists, and Theatre Companies to make and produce the highest quality of work, that supports the curriculum, and positively impacts groups and communities. I’m awake I think… But what was it that woke me? That tap tap on the window, that sliver of sun on the wall, my cold foot? Or did my dream wake me? Branar tours a magical, music-filled show that journeys through one child’s day, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary, combining live theatre performance, live music, and animation. A delightful blend of storytelling, written by renowned children’s author Mary Murphy, performed by actor Eoin O’Dubhghaill. Music performed live on stage by a Piano Quintet.

THE SCHOOLYARD BAND CONCERT

Due to the success of the mini tour to schools last spring we are delighted to be offering two concerts in The Civic at 11am or 12.30pm. Each concert will last approximately 1hr and will introduce the children to a range of different musical instruments and types of music. (11am concert facilitated as gaeilge). On the day you’ll hear lots of different music including TV and cartoon themes, pop songs, some classical music and traditional Irish tunes. There will be lots of opportunities to sing and clap along!

Based on a story from Steven Lee’s best selling “How The Koala Learnt To Hug and Other Australian Fairytales” this gentle, heartwarming show celebrates all the things that make life special, including love, laughter, and belonging

THE CHALLENGES OF BEING MY BEST SELF

As part of Real Learning’s ‘Life Play’ programme, The Challenges of Being My Best Self is a Theatre in Education workshop that has been written and designed with the input from Young People, Teachers, Guidance Counsellors, Drama Therapist, Clinicians and Youth & Engagement Community Workers. We are delighted to be offering 40 places for TY students to actively participate and enjoy learning about this style of theatre in this to 2.5hrs workshops with 4 sessions available on 9th or 10th February 2026.
Fee is €10 per student. Teachers do not attend the workshop but are required to remain in the venue. Each session is shared with another secondary school to encourage empathy and enhance peer learning. Maximum of 20 places available from each school.

This community building and young theatre making programme continues to engage with two selected 6th Class & 1st Year groups with weekly workshops from January to March 2026 with a final presentation day on 19th March. The participating schools are: St Aidan’s Senior National School, St Aidan’s Community School, Scoil Maelruain Primary School & Old Bawn Community School.

TEDDY PLAY

TOUR FEB – MAR 2026
Teddy Play show is a multi-sensory interactive experience created by and for children on the autistic spectrum aged 7-10 years. Each child is welcome to play as much or as little as they wish, in whatever way works for them. This is an ASD unit, Primary Schools tour with three children’s shows available for up to 6 children per performance.

UP IN THE CLOUDS
Presented by Anna Newell Theatre Adventures

APR | Mon 20th – Wed 22nd
A chilled-out adventure for children and young people with complex/profound needs. Performed inside a dreamy white tent to just 3 audience members at a time, ‘Up In The Clouds’ drifts its audience off to a gentle magical place full of exquisite live harmony singing, air and space and gentle object play, with the shows designed so that the performers can respond to each individual child/young person. A spa for the soul… Performed for children with complex needs this Spring.
