Get ready for a unique experiment in theatre making for children and young people! Over the past school year, a very special group of 4th and 5th class students have contributed their time, imagination, artwork, and laughs to a dynamic collaborative process in designing the theatre piece they want to take part in and share with their age group.
Set Square Collective invite you to attend a free fun filled drama workshop! Curious about how the team made this show? Want to learn more about acting and drama games? Come and join this hour long workshop on the main stage at The Civic?. Working with professional actor Vlad Gurdis the workshop team will guide you through the workshop exploring the skills and techniques of both speech and drama.
Background:
The children kindly welcomed into their creative space Set Square, a group of visual artists and set designers (who did what the children told them!) and set about picking their brains and learning their expertise! The result is a fantastical story developed through sculpture, drawing, playing, singing, thinking, talking, laughing, and general messing around; reflecting the unique thinking process that happens when a group of 10 and 11 year olds get together.
Our story so far sees our heroes go on a quest through a series of fantasy worlds, facing many different challenges, scenarios, and emotions with which we are all familiar, from excitement, longing, anger and trepidation to love, resilience and the joy of getting back home.
Now comes an exciting stage in the process where we get to add into this mix some more very special ingredients – the theatre professionals at the Civic, our script writer Sean, and drama consultant Vlad – to see where the story will go next!
All that remains to do is to set our heroes loose on The Civic main stage to see what happens when we add a very important audience of family, friends, and teachers into the mix.
This will be a rehearsed reading performed by the children from Sacred Heart Senior National School.
Exciting times ahead! Watch this space!
