TENDERFOOT, The Civic Theatre’s apprentice theatre programme for transition year students, supports the development of new theatrical voices. The Tenderfoot Showcase presents a programme of plays by 16 year old playwrights, plays reflecting their lives, their world, plays exploring their fears, their worries, their joys. Performed and designed by a 70 strong ensemble of young people under the guidance of working theatre professionals.
This year’s programme features:
‘Anyone’s House’ by Anna McCaffrey – Lucan Community College
Mary, Guy & Dylan aren’t in class. They’re in trouble. They contemplate what the future has in store for them as they sit impatiently outside the principal’s office, waiting to be summonsed inside. Funny, real and just a little bit outrageous.
‘Is There Heaven On This Earth’ by Jayla King – Collinstown Park Community College
A beautifully crafted play set in the not too distant future in a world that is oddly recognisable but wholly unimaginable. Tender, tense and terribly human.
‘Debts Of The Soul’ by John Nechiti – Lucan Community College
Jordi Reyes is good at his job. He deals with people but doesn’t understand them. He’s never felt like he fitted in. But then something changes. A chance meeting, unexpected conversations, Jordi’s world will never be the same again.
‘Summer of Change by Holly O’Reilly’ – Blessington Community College
It’s summer, it’s warm and everyone has everything to live for. But then the unthinkable occurs. A group of friends, a single moment, nobody saw it coming, it wasn’t anyone’s fault. Was it? An exploration of coming to terms with things we never thought would happen.
This year Tenderfoot is working with 140 young people from 20 second level schools in South Dublin County. 70 young people will take part in Tenderfoot’s Writing for Theatre Programme in April 2025. Veronica Coburn is Tenderfoot’s Programme Director. The Tenderfoot Programme for 2025 will be directed by Esosa Ighodaro, Joy Nesbitt & Dominic O’Brien.
