The exhibition ‘Like Grandparents in Fairytales’ is a portrayal of ten grandparents from the Republic of Moldova and Romania, showcasing their life stories through a captivating collection of portrait photographs. This exhibition marks the culmination of the project led by Natalia Luncaș Ionel, which aims to shed light on the vital role of grandparents in diaspora communities, as carriers of cultural heritage and keepers of family traditions, stories and language.
The photographs and the interviews that accompany them give us a glimpse into the lives of Moldovan and Romanian families in Ireland, but also open a conversation on migrant identity and what it means to have roots in more than one place.
This project was created by Natalia Luncaș Ionel, in partnership with photographer Vlad Bodarev. The project is supported by the Romanian Embassy in Ireland and the Romanian Community in Ireland (RCI) and funded by Alfa Medics. More details can be found on the website: www.mamainie.eu
