The Civic, Liz Roche Company, Tallaght Community Arts and Dublin Dance Festival invite local audiences in Tallaght to engage with contemporary dance over a six month period from April to September 2017. Participants will follow the work of the Liz Roche Company through a programme of events, workshops, talks and performances that will allow them experience up close how the Company goes about developing, producing and performing existing and new dance work in a variety of performance settings. This project will be co-ordinated by Jenny MacDonald.

MENU of activities for 2017 include:

FIRST MEETING

May 3rd, 7.30pm – 9pm, Loose End Studio, Civic Theatre Tallaght

Over tea and buns we will:

  • Meet everybody involved in the project

  • Talk about of contemporary dance in general – in Ireland and Internationally

  • Explain about the Active Audience initiative

  • Explain about the specific pieces being made in 2017 by Liz Roche Company

  • Meet the partner organisations, choreographer Liz Roche + two dancers from the company & composer Ray Harman.

SECOND MEETING

May 17th, 7.30pm – 9pm, Loose End Studio, Civic Theatre Tallaght

SEE NATIONAL GALLERY of IRELAND AND THEN SEE THE DANCE IT IS INSPIRING

Saturday 27th May
Visit to National Gallery of Ireland meeting 12 noon followed by work in progress showing of Totems at DanceHouse on Foley Street at 3pm.

Two sponsored places on the FAST TRACK programme during the Festival

12 MINUTE DANCES OPEN REHEARSALS IN RUA RED

Saturday June 3rd
12 Minute Dances rehearsal in Rua Red Arts Centre (located opposite Civic Theatre, Tallaght)

Active Audience welcome to observe rehearsal between 3.30pm and 5.30pm with Tea & Coffee and chat at 5.30pm

NATIONAL GALLERY TOUR + SKETCHING DANCE CLASS + SIT IN ON TECHNICAL REHEARSAL

Wednesday July 5th
National Gallery of Ireland

1pm Rehearsal/movement sketching session in performance space with company

1.30 – 2.45pm Pre rehearsal tour of full gallery including the newly re-opened Dargan and Milltown Wings.

3pm Tech and dress rehearsal of Totems

Totems performances at the National Gallery of Ireland (6th & 7th at 7pm and 8th & 9th at 1pm)

September – Company at Civic

Active Audience meeting: September 15th Evening – tour of theatre, talk with Joe Vanek about design and costume in dance.

Volunteer performers schedule to be involved in the solo piece from 12 Minute Dances.

Tour of theatre and talk by Michael Barker Caven with Joe Vanek about Rothko and modern art influence on concept, design and costume in dance & Meet the company – young dancers interested in contemporary could come and question the dancers about careers in dance.
