2023 is the 40th year of the Tallaght Person of the Year awards.
They are a community run awards programme to recognise and celebrate unsung community heroes across various walks of life in Tallaght. It was created by Charles and Mary Morton in 1984, and the first awards were held in The Belgard Inn, with Garret Fitzgerald as the special guest. It was handed over to the Tallaght Community Council in 1986 and it has been run by community volunteers for 40 years now.
Our 2022/23 Tallaght Person of the Year is Zak Moradi. Zak has been playing GAA with Thomas Davis for almost two decades, also coaching children and teens with the club during that time. He speaks highly of the welcome he received coming to Ireland as a refugee when he was a young boy. The GAA was instrumental in his journey of integration. He is a member of the Sports against Racism committee and is an advocate for diversity and inclusion in sports. Zak is a proud Kurd as well as Tallaght man, regularly sharing insights into the Kurdish culture.
