The Mental is the third in the Barrow trilogy of plays that began with Corner Boys and continued with Lucinda Sly.
Set in 1990, The Mental is the story of John Salter who spent forty years in a psychiatric institution for doing a good deed. Now, patients are being back into the community but John doesn’t want to leave.
“Who’ll wake the crows in the morning and get them to their nests at night if I go?” he asks.
The Mental is the story of a gentle man who continues to survive in spite of life.
