As part of the annual Dublin Festival of Russian Culture, the Civic is delighted to present two outstanding productions by one of Russia’s finest regional theatre companies. Both works will be presented in Russian with English surtitles.
Russian playwright and novelist Nikolai Gogol’s Marriage: An Utterly Improbable Occurrence in Two Acts, (1833) is a luminous, hilarious, absurdly poetic tale about the business of marriage. A town matchmaker and a newly betrothed busybody match their wits in a race to marry off a gun-shy suitor.
Calamity ensues and it’s anybody’s guess whether the bride will make it to the altar. Part phantasmagoria, part social comedy, part mad cap farce, this is a rare chance to see a masterpiece by one of the great Russian playwrights in an authentically Russian production.
