The Civic in Tallaght reaches Crowd Funding target of 50k towards Relief Fund for Artists

The Civic Theatre in Tallaght Has raised €50,000 for Irish artists suffering financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. We’ve already paid grants of €500 to 100 of the struggling artists who applied to help them pay bills, put food on the table and give them some peace of mind.

According to Niamh Ferry, General Manager of the Civic who conceived the idea back in March and who administers the fund on behalf of The Civic

“We are delighted to have reached our target and a grateful to all who donated, those who ran events to support the campaign and helped us to share and publicise the fund. Our ambition now is to make this an ongoing national benevolent fund to help artists who face continuing financial crisis. We are working closely with national voices and organsisations to carry the fund forward. As has been demonstrated recently thorough the #SaveTheArts the campaign from National Campaign For the Arts, our artists remain and will continue to be among those most affected financially by this Pandemic. When the fund opened on St. Patrick’s day 2020, applications flooded in from across the community including choreographers, painters, actors, musicians, opera singers, directors, writers, producers, stage managers, theatre technicians, designers, singers and songwriters. The demand is palpable. We need to keep up momentum”.

Donations will be accepted from individuals and corporations in order to replenish the fund and continue making payments to eligible artists in the queue. The Civic, Tallaght is covering all admin/processing costs so 100% of every donation goes directly to artists across the Arts Community in Ireland.
