The Bad Daters and the Good Cheaters opens at The Civic on Weds. 26th Jun and runs until Sat 30th in our studio, following a sell-out 2 week run in the Viking Theatre earlier this year. Described as an hilarious comedy double-bill in two one-act plays, we had a chat with the actors in advance of the show- Meet Brian Gallagher.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a town called Foynes in west Limerick but I’ve lived in Dublin city centre for years.

Tell us about your interest in the arts and writing/ performing? How did it come about?
I’ve been obsessed with comedy since I was a child and watched every sitcom religiously. Even when I was playing sports (badly) I was more interested in making the opposition laugh than I was in the game itself. I’ve written short stories and poetry and run corporate workshops in storytelling, but I found my true passion in stand up comedy and acting.

Where have you performed before?
I’ve been to the Edinburgh Fringe every year for the last five years which is the highlight of my year. I’m the resident MC in The Laughter Lounge Dublin and I’m on stage most nights of the week. We recently had a hugely successful sold out two week run with The Bad Daters/The Good Cheaters in the Viking Theatre.

What can Tallaght audiences expect from this show?
Lots of laughs, a few elbow your partner moments and lots of lines that you’ll be repeating on the way home on the car. Both plays are so well written and directed, I think people will love it.

Tell us a random fact about yourself?
I collect random things from antique shops and car boot sales. Dreaming of selling that broken watch I bought for 5 euro for 1 million. It hasn’t happened yet. If anyone wants to buy a box of random rubbish please get in touch.

What’s next for you?
I’ll be taking my solo stand up comedy hour ‘Planet of the Vapes’ to the Edinburgh Fringe for the full run this August. I have a few acting jobs coming up towards the end of the year too but I can’t say much about those yet!
