Tenderfoot is The Civic’s apprentice theatre programme for second level students. This year 17 schools and over 70 young people are participating virtually. Sinead Diskin is Tenderfoot’s sound design Mentor. Here she gives us an insight into Tenderfoot Online……

“There are 12 students in the sound design and composition team and we are working hard to ensure the experience of Tenderfoot on zoom is as thorough and enlightening as possible! This year we are dividing our time between practical work and research. In week one, we discussed the types of music we like and the types of music we’d like to learn more about. Using resources like Jam Board, we shared our findings and listened to music from many different eras and genres. In week two we focused on the Tenderfoot plays and picked four plays to work on. The students are composing themes for these and sourcing sound effects to build soundscapes for each play. We are applying the same process we would normally use on a production in the Civic Theatre but adapting how we present it to ensure the students hard work will be showcased in all its glory!  Tenderfoot is always a brilliant experience for students and mentors and this year is no different. It is challenging to create sound and music through Zoom, but the students have worked incredibly hard and I am very proud of the work they are creating.”
