Artist Development Workshop | Ready Steady SHOW!
On Sunday The Civic welcomed its Ready Steady SHOW! alumni from 2020 and the commissioned artists for 2021 for THE GREAT BRAIN EXPLOSION. This workshop was part of the Ready Steady SHOW! artist development program and initiative that runs alongside the RSS commissions. The program gives artists support, resources and mentorship opportunities, giving them space to reflect on their practice as makers of work for a young audience.

The workshop was led by Anna Newell and Jo Managan. During the day they guided the RSS artists through a series of exercises and provocations that helped them unpick why they do what they do and identify what they need in order to grow, strengthen and develop their work.

“Being given permission to think big, reassess where we are at and make decisions about where we want to go and how to get there is extremely important.” said Hannah Mullan, RSS’s Creative Producer. “The opportunity for our artists to think creatively and strategically is vital. Engaging in this work with practitioners who are as experienced as Jo and Anna presents a great opportunity. We were delighted to have them with us for the day.”
