The Civic is supported by our volunteer usher programme.  The programme was first developed from our youth arts schools initiative:  TENDERFOOT for transition year students and those initial volunteers have stayed with us until graduation from third level.

We rely heavily on the dedication and commitment of our ushers to ensure you, our patrons, have a great night out. Over the next few weeks in our blog, we offer you the chance to get to know a bit more about them.  First up its James…..

Where are you from?
I’m from Drimnagh.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m 19, currently in second year psychology at Maynooth University. I play guitar and act in a youth theatre group called Aois Nua.

How long have you been volunteering at the Civic?
I’ve been volunteering in The Civic for roughly 10 months now.

What’s your favourite part about working in the Civic?
My favourite part is definitely my co-workers! It’s like a second family, I love working with them!

Have you any behind the scenes stories?
For the first few months of volunteering in The Civic, my name was anything other than James. I’ve been Steven, Jimmy, Jim, Stevie and more recently, Hamëz

What’s the best show you have seen at the Civic?
Definitely has to be “Class”. It was a fantastic piece, really well written and performed excellently!

What are your future plans?
I want to take my psychology course all the way to PhD and hopefully open my own practice one day.

Tell us 1 random fact about yourself?
For the first six years of my life, I thought the Civic was the only theatre in the world! (I grew up in Tallaght). I know now that it’s not the only one…but it IS the best one!

Thanks James or should we say…… Hamëz ?
