Introducing Fernanda Ferrari!
Fernanda is our DIGITAL : SEED commission for 2022-23. She has been working with Ready Steady SHOW since the summer of 2022 developing and exploring digital arts experiences for children and families. She began to fall in love with new technologies and the different ways they can be used to tell stories in fun and dynamic ways for children and is going to be showcasing her new piece The Magic Field as part of Ready, Steady, SHOW!’s SCRATCH: A mini festival of new work this May.
We asked her a few questions:
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a multidisciplinary artist who loves to create stories and images that awaken the inner child inside each of us. My passion is to work with children and their families using creativity as a transformation tool. I had my degree in Drama from UNICAMP University in Brazil more than 20 years ago. Since then, I have been working with performance, film production and stop-motion animation, always connected with social and education projects. In Ireland, in the last few years, I was awarded by the Arts Council and the South Dublin County Council with bursaries to research and develop original projects for young audiences exploring puppet theatre, storytelling and silent books. Currently, I am collaborating with Mother Tongues and Early Childhood Ireland in a pilot project supported by the TOY SHOW.
What is your piece called?
The Magic Field
Who is this for?
Families and children aged 4+
What is the themes are explored in the piece?
The creation of a story about what it means to hold dreams in your heart and how to make them happen.
What will this look like and how do the audience engage with it?
The Magic Field is a work in progress installation that explores how we can use new AR Technology to create magical storytelling. I am fusing old school puppetry and moving dioramas (a bit like an old fashioned puppet theatre) with cutting edge AR technology to tell the story of Carmella, the little girl who goes on a journey to turn her dreams into reality. These beautiful hand crafted story boxes will have QR codes located within them which will trigger animation that can be viewed through an i-pad or a smart phone device.
Will I need to be a technically savvy to show this to my child?
Not at all! Its a simple as downloading an app which allows a QR code to be activated! If you don’t have a smart phone we have access to tablets you can book and borrow for the session. I will be around to help you with any questions/ queries you may have!
