Big Guerilla Productions are delighted to present Indigestion, a play that has been described as sensitive, hilarious, intelligent, absolutely compelling and refreshingly forthright. This is Seamus O’Rourke doing what he does best, storytelling.

Coming to the Civic for ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY on Sunday, October 20th at 3pm. Get to know a bit more about writer & performer Seamus O’Rourke here:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Where did you grow up?
I was born and reared in Leitrim – I still live there. There are only a few of us – so, we feel very special. The capital of Leitrim is Carrick-on-Shannon – but we have to share part of the town with Roscommon.

When did you first become interested in performing/writing?
I walked into the Corn Mill Theatre in 1989. I was 24. I had never even said ‘boo’ to a goose before that. I fell in love with the idea of being somebody else… and the only place to do that was on stage. I started to write so that ‘somebody else’ would have something to say. It turns out, he has a lot to say.

What have been your favourite/proudest moments as an artist, thus far?
Not been eaten alive by an audience – ever. I’ve come very close a few times, but I’m still going back for more. Really – my favourite moments are the next time I walk on stage. I can’t believe I’m still getting away with it.

Where did this show come from? And what can audiences expect?
I met a fella at a wedding and he talked in a very particular way – very forthright – no flounces to his stories… he just told me what happened to him when he was younger. ‘Indigestion’ is not his story (I had to make that up myself) but the character is based on the fella I met at the wedding. You’ll love him… well, I did… so much so – I wrote a play around him.
This man gets to say a lot of things that you can’t say anymore – he’s not very PC – but he’s funny and unfortunate and sometimes, out of control. But this is a play about HOPE and finding light and grabbing the world by the neck and holding it up until something falls out on the floor.

Tell us one random fact about yourself.
I’m not a vegetarian and don’t have any dietary requirements. (I’m obviously not a proper actor)

If people enjoy the show, where else can they enjoy or hear more about your work?
All my tour dates are on seamusorourke.com. I have a book out called ‘Leaning on Gates’ published by Gill Books and in all good and midlin’ bookshops.
