Early Years Mini-Fest: Tuesday, 12th September 2017

The Civic is committed to families; they are, after all, our most important communities and the building blocks of our creative society. In the years ahead your theatre will look to provide regular engagements with families, providing the highest quality work to stimulate your child’s world and to help make play, story and imagination central to their way of interacting with life.

In 2018, we will play host to one of Ireland’s foremost exponents in this field, Monkeyshine Theatre Company, who will be our company in residence for the year creating arts experiences for young families. We have great plans ahead with three exciting ventures planned which will engage you and your children in the creation of some very special work so watch out for news on our website and in our season brochures.

To kick start this process of engagement we have invited a group of wonderful artists – Anna Newell, Joanna Williams (Little Bigtop) with Joanna Parkes, Orla Kelly working with Deidre Rogers and our own local Margaret Bergin from Garbo Productions, to join us for the week this September setting them the ‘Ready Steady, Show!’ challenge of devising a concept for a new piece of work for children between the ages of 0-6 and presenting their work in progress idea all in one special day! We will then look to work with the artists to help them further tend the work and bring it to final flower in the near future. We hope you enjoy the results as much as we are enjoying having such wonderful practitioners spend time with us here at the Civic.

This initiative coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Childhod Development Initiative whose conference at the Civic on the same day celebrates a decade of wonderful achievement with families in the area and who have posed the great question going forward – What next for the children of Tallaght? This initiative and all the others we have planned for families in the years ahead is part of the answer to that pivotal challenge.

We hope you enjoy the results. Here’s to the future. Let’s have some fun!

This initiative supported by South Dublin County Council and the Arts Council of Ireland.
