Once upon a time, long, long ago, in the not too distant past, it all seemed to happen, as if by magic… But slowly, the world began to change and before we knew where we were there were forms, and cuts, and strategies and “complications” and lo and behold the artist – who once dreamt the great dream and brought forth vistas of great wonder – shrank beneath the burden of the three headed beast, Formulae, Deadline and…. Paperwork!
It became a distant memory – imagining, daring, playing, failing, reaching for the stars – but one which the true artist never quite gave up on.
Surely, there must be a way to go forward by going back, and hence rescue prince-and-princess process from its locked and lofty tower? Surely, we can’t be left out here in this Wasteland to fend all by ourselves?
Then suddenly, one January in 2020, along came the intrepid and determined Civic with a whole fresh approach designed to liberate the artist from this dungeon of despair and to once more motivate a flight of wings back up to the light.
It was quite simple really.
Natural, one might say.
SOIL. SEED. TEND. FLOWER.
These were our watch words. This is our Manifesto.
CHAPTER ONE: The Civic is holding an Open Call for proposals from artists and play practitioners who work with children at the centre of their practice. We are looking for proposals to meet our new Ready, Steady, SHOW! Commissions. Please download the briefs attached for a bit more info about the awards, the commission process and what we’re looking for!
2 Commissions of €2,500 will be available for Phase 1: SOIL | R&D Engaging in a Learning Setting and will culminate in a 15-20 minute scratch showing of work at the RSS festival in June 2020.
1 Commission of €15,000 (lead artist fee of €6,000 and a Production budget of €9,000) will be available to facilitate the Commissioning process from Phases 1-4 (see attached documents for more info). This will culminate in a series of showcase showings as part of Ready Steady SHOW! in June 2020.
1 Commission to build a Creative Play Station in the The Civic’s Gallery Space. The total budget for this project is: €4,500 (covering fee, materials, production and installation costs).
