TENDERFOOT In September 2011, 42 transition year students from 7 schools in South County Dublin signed on for their first day of TENDERFOOT, the Civic Theatre's apprentice theatre programme. Transition year is all about experience – new experiences and new ways of learning. Apprenticeship is all about learning by doing. TENDERFOOT offers transition year students interested in theatre an opportunity to learn about all aspects of the art of theatre in a hands-on way. The plays in the TENDERFOOT programme are written, performed, produced and designed by the students under the guidance of their tutors. TENDERFOOT tutors are all working theatre professionals. The work in this programme is the work of young theatre artists - our TENDERFEET. We hope you enjoy their first tentative steps.
TENDERFOOT is funded by The Civic Theatre, South Dublin County Arts Office and The Arts Council’s Young Ensemble Scheme.

Until that day the world was a swirl of moving coloured blobs. I thought it was the same for everyone. How wrong I was.’

Cois Ceim presents Touch Me Directed and Choreographed by David Bolger Live Music – Composer/Saxophonist Kenneth Edge
Set among the remains of a boarded-up room, a group of strangers look in from outside. A set of keys unlocks the door to hidden gems left behind. What was that promise that you made? In 1997, CoisCéim produced the critically acclaimed Reel Luck which looked at Ireland on the cusp of the Celtic Tiger. Through a series of vignettes, Touch Me comments on society today and the transformation from tiger visions to the exodus of the once majestic cranes. From this lonely landscape David Bolger rakes through the spoils of an unprecedented era to discover a new beauty, in the promise of the future, in a richer humanity. What are the new symbols of fortune? What makes us happy now?

The Millennium Forum Derry presents Carthaginians By Frank McGuiness Directed by Adrian Dunbar
Frank McGuinness’ Carthaginians has often been acknowledged as one of the enduring plays to have emerged from ‘The Troubles’. An elegy for Bloody Sunday in Derry, it is a tragedy of intense grief which becomes the unspoken subject through the personal journeys of three women and three men who camp out in a graveyard awaiting the resurrection of the dead. Dido is the outsider who brings daily pram loads of supplies including a script of his own attempt at a Troubles play, The Burning Balaclava, the comic centrepiece which is surrounded by jokes, quizzes and encounters which pass the time of waiting. Individual resurrections signal a community, like Carthage, rising from its ashes. This production commemorates the 40th anniversary of Bloody Sunday and this production of Carthaginians celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Millennium Forum.
